The Story of Devekids: Crafting a Dream from Our Home to Yours
It all began in a small, bustling home filled with the joyful noise of children at play. As parents, we were always on the lookout for ways to support our children's growth and development. We wanted to create an environment that nurtured their independence, sparked their curiosity, and made learning a natural part of everyday life. But as we searched for the perfect furniture to help us achieve this, we realized something was missing—pieces that were not only functional and safe but also beautiful and durable enough to stand the test of time.
That’s when we decided to take matters into our own hands. With a deep love for the Montessori philosophy and a passion for woodworking, we set out to design and create our first Montessori tower. We wanted something that would allow our children to safely join us at the kitchen counter, helping with meals, or simply watching and learning. But more than that, we wanted a piece that was strong, sturdy, and built to last—a piece that would look as good in our home as it was functional.
We chose Baltic birch plywood for its strength and beauty, finishing it with water-based paints and waxes that were safe for our kids and the environment. Every step of the process was carefully considered. We used CNC machines for precise material cutting, ensuring that each piece was crafted to perfection. But it’s the hands-on work that truly makes our products special. Each product is hand-sanded, painted, and finished with the utmost care, embodying the love and attention to detail that we put into everything we create.
When we finally placed that first Montessori tower in our kitchen, we knew we had created something special. Encouraged by the positive feedback, we decided to open an Etsy shop. We called ourselves Devekids, inspired by the idea of helping children "develop" in an environment designed just for them.
What started with a single Montessori tower quickly grew into a full range of Montessori-inspired furniture. We expanded our offerings to include low, open bookshelves that made it easy for kids to access their favorite stories, and shelf systems designed to keep toys and learning materials organized and within reach. Each piece was designed with the same care and attention to detail as that first tower, combining functionality with a design that complements the home.
As our shop grew, so did our commitment to quality. Every product we made was something we would proudly use in our own home—because it was.
